This August, we planned to take a family camping trip to Starved Rock State Park but due to the extreme heat and chance of severe storms we decided to stay home and camp in our own backyard. We had a great time setting up the tent, playing games and cooking on our fire pit. We roasted marshmellows, made smores and tried to get the kids to bed at a decent time (yeah, right) so as not to have cranky kids the next day. I was surprised by how well the kids slept in the tent. Mike and I did not fair as well and I think I was up most the night unable to get comfortable as we were sleeping on the hard ground (our air mattress started leaking after we set it up). But, like everything else, it was for the kids and they had a blast. Kylie wanted to do it again the next night and was so sad to take the tent down.
